Burnaby (IFD) Wednesday afternoon Zoom group is having guest teacher Holly Plotner. She is teaching at our group on June 1st from 1:00 pm – 3:30 pm (Pacific Time). Holly is an avid dancer and spent her early years dancing at weddings and festivals in Chicago’s diverse ethnic community. However, she didn’t discover International Folk Dancing until the mid-80’s, and was immediately hooked. Holly, now living in Austin, Texas where she dances with Austin International Folk Dancers, Texas International Folk Dancers, Austin Scandinavian Dancers and Csárás Hungarian Dancers. She is a frequent dance leader, performer, programmer, and teacher and has directed many camps, workshops and performances. As well, Holly plays violin, percussion and sings in several local bands in the Austin area. Currently, Holly and her two Siamese kittens can be seen dancing at Zoom parties and camps all over the internet.
Holly’s teaching session, starting with warm-up dances, runs from 1:00 – 2:30 pm (Pacific) and we’re looking forward to learning the dances she plans to teach.
After the break at 2:30 pm, we’ll resume our regular programming with our Zoom team leading dances for your enjoyment.

Balkan & International folk dance with Burnaby International Folk Dancers
Come dance with us! Burnaby International Folk Dancers Tuesday evening Zoom sessions have changed to Wednesday afternoons from 1:00 – 3:00 pm (Pacific Time) starting April 6th as we will be returning to weekly in-person dancing on Tuesday evenings starting April 5th.
Tune in at 12:45 pm (Pacific Time) for chat time.
Monthly Parties: Our parties are on the last Wednesday of each month from 1:00 – 3:30 pm (Pacific Time). All party dances will be led by one of our team members.

Usually held the first weekend in March in Laguna Woods, CA, this year’s festival will be a one-day Zoom event on Saturday, March 5 from 10 am to 9 pm PT. Seven former Festival teachers will each review previously taught Laguna Festival dances and reintroduce some of their lesser known favorites! Then party with special guest dance leaders from 6-9pm PT!

Miroslav will bring his boundless energy and enthusiasm from his home to ours, as he shares some of the dances and stories of the Serbian culture.
A native of Serbia, Miroslav “Bata” Marčetić was a leading performer, soloist and choreographer, with the Serbian National Folk Ensemble “Kolo” in Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro (former Yugoslavia) for seventeen years and is the recipient of several awards for his artistic work. He has attended almost all folk dance seminars held in former Yugoslavia and eventually, he became the instructor of several workshops held in former Yugoslavia, Japan, Israel and currently in Canada and the USA.

Featuring guest instructors Ewa and Tommy Englund, and Gunnar Iggendal, Folklore Village’s Spring Swedish Music & Dance Weekend will be an immersive cultural experience for all. Join us online for workshops in Swedish dance, music, and cooking, as well as afternoon parties featuring music by Gunnar Iggendal, and evening parties featuring music by guest musicians Char Bostrom, Martha Levenson, lydia ievins, and members of the Chicago Spelmanslag.
Full-time admission is $60. Part-time admission to the evening parties is priced at $10 per party.

This afternoon’s program will be a combination of culture and dance, as Arjen introduces us to his homeland through the region’s dance traditions and stories about the area’s history. The Kurdish region is what is now the northern part of the Middle East, along the Zagros and Taurus Mountains, covering an area that includes: Kurdistan, southeast Turkey, northwest Iran, northern Iraq, and northeast Syria. This afternoon Arjen will meld teaching traditional Kurdish dances with telling tales about the areas from which they come.
Arjen lives in Istanbul and graduated from ITU (Istanbul Technical University) Turkish Music State Conservatory. The FACONE Saturday series begins again after a bit of a hiatus! We will kick off the fun with Genci Kastrati joining us from his home in Tirana, Albania. These Saturday afternoons will include dancing, of course, but will also feature a longer “culture corner” component.

FAC’s online Saturday afternoon workshop will be an all-live music dance party, with music by the FAC Living Room Orchestra and dances led by Boston-area dancers.
The dynamic band, far from being living room couch potatoes, consists of: Patrick Yacono (director), Robert Penny, Julia Porier, David Skidmore, Dana Sussman, Brian Wilson, and Niki Yeracaris.
